Your dashboard shows 90% utilization, but your helpdesk is flooded with “Resource Unavailable” errors. You’re paying for “zombie” sessions that Autoscale failed to terminate because the session stayed in a “Pending” state during a scale-down event.

Symptom Matrix:

BrokerState: Pending, AutoscaleState: Draining, CCU Consumption: Active.

Architectural Root Cause:

A race condition between the Citrix Cloud Broker and the local VDA during “Force Logoff” notifications where the EDR agent blocks the session teardown.

Surgical Fix:

A PowerShell script that identifies sessions where SessionState -eq ‘Active’ AND UserName -eq $null and initiates a Stop-BrokerSession followed by a local Citrix Desktop Service restart.

A script clears the zombie today, but it doesn’t fix the EDR conflict causing the leak. Stop paying for empty sessions. [Identify the driver conflict with a Forensic Health Check]
